Developing fully functional homes, that can be transported and installed temporarily at the Ideal Home Show exhibition each year is a big challenge. The homes need to be full size to allow visitors to see all the latest design and product in situ and strong enough to be able to withstand up to 13,500 visitors each day during the exhibition. Another restriction is the very short build time on site at the exhibition hall, meaning homes need to be built off site and assembled very quickly prior to the show opening. The designers chose Freefoam X – Wood cladding in white for the rear elevation extension. With it’s modern lines and smooth woodgrain effect finish it complemented the more traditional brick faced front elevation.

Tony Fox, Director Off Site Factory Homes explained the process “The whole house was built prior to the exhibition in four separate ‘modules’, which were then transported to the show and constructed to form one house. To create a durable and stable modular construction we need materials to be light, easy to handle and to withstand the rigors of transportation. Whilst this project was for a temporary building we apply the same criteria to permanent project. We used Freefoam cladding as it me all our criteria. It is light to handle, crucial for our projects, but very solid and hard wearing. It is very easy to fit, with a range of trims to finish corners and joins, reducing our build time.”
